Kindergarten Screening

USD 477 will be having its Kindergarten screening and enrollment on  Friday, April 12th, 2019, at Ingalls Grade School for all children in USD 477 who are eligible to attend the 2019-2020 school year.

To be eligible for kindergarten, the child must attain the age of five (5) years on or before August 31st, 2019.  Even though students may have already attended Pre-K, they still must go through the kindergarten screening process.

All children who meet age and residency requirements are eligible to enroll in kindergarten in the Ingalls public school system.

On April 12th, children will be screened in the following areas:  1.) Fine motor skills:  2.) Cognitive skills: 3.) Language skills:  4.) Personal/social skills:  The results of the screening are used to determine if your child is ready to enter kindergarten.  No eligible child is kept out of kindergarten based on the results of this screening. The information gained from the screening will be used to help us develop program planning for your child’s development and to determine what areas you may need to help him/her before he/she begins school next fall.

Please make every effort to have your child screened as this is an important assessment.

There are four time slots during which to schedule your child for this screening:

·        [8:00 am – 9:00 am]

·        [9:00 am – 10:00 am]

·        [10:00 am – 11:00 am]

·        [11:00 am – 12:00 am]

Please call the Grade School Office to schedule a time that works for you by April 10th    at 335-5134.

On the day of the screenings, please report to the Grade School Workroom at least 5 minutes before your scheduled time. This screening will take place in the kindergarten room.  For new students, please allow fifteen minutes to complete the necessary paperwork for enrollment.  You will not need to stay with your child during the 60 minutes screening time, but we ask that you pick them up promptly in the grade school office at the end of your designated time.

Be sure to bring your child’s immunization records, social security number, and birth certificate or copies that we can keep on file when you arrive for the screening.  Every child must have a document that shows the student’s identity and age, physical exam dated within 12 months of entrance and dates of all immunizations, including hepatitis B series and chicken pox, on file with our office BEFORE starting school this fall.  If your child already attends the Pre-K program at Ingalls and you feel all the necessary information has been provided, then there is no need to bring the paperwork to the screening again, unless there are additions/updates to the child’s immunizations.

We will be sending you the results of the screening by mail.  If a conference with Mrs. Howard, is indicated, it will be noted on the summary that you receive in the mail.  Please allow at least three weeks for results, as we are still busy finishing our current school year.

We are looking forward to seeing you and your child on Friday, April 12th, 2019.
