Book Report
Clary travels to the City of Glass to try and find a warlock that could save her mother from the coma she put herself in. While there, she meets Sebastian who seems to want to help Clary find the warlock. She takes his help without Jace (her brother) knowing. She finds out the warlock was killed before she found him and finds Magnus in his place. Magnus knows how to get her mother out of the coma so he trades her a book for the potion. The only way she can get the book is with the help of her brother Jace. They get into the house and retrieve the book when they hear a noise from downstairs, and find an angel who had been tortured by Valentine. Clary learns that some of her dreams were given to her by the angel as a warning. Jace after seeing some of the images thinks he is part demon and that is why he feels how he feels. Clary gets mad at him so they head back and when they do they see the city in flames and demons everywhere. Only the kids and elders were in the city at the time, because the parents were meeting together on how to stop Valentine. They weren’t sure how they got in since they made sure no demon could ever enter. Finally the demons leave and everyone who survived heads to the meeting hall where they are joined by a holograph of Valentine himself. He gives them a day or so to decide to join his ranks and stand by him or fight even more demons next time. Sebastian then asks Clary if he can talk to her outside and pushes it a lot. But finally Jace comes over and gets him to leave her alone. They then decide to go let Simon out of his cell and find out that Hodge was the other prisoner there. As soon as Hodge says the third mortal instrument is the lake Sebastian shows up and murders Hodge. They knew he would head back and tell Valentine this news so they head back and decide to fight the demons with a new rune Clary created that binds downworlders and shadowhunters so they can share their power. Jace decides to go after Sebastian and stop him so he tracks him. While Jace is gone, Clary finds out that Jace is not her brother but Sebastian is. Jace finds Sebastian and Valentine and learns that Valentine is not his father but Sebastian is actually Jonathan. Jace and Sebastian fight and Valentine heads to the lake to awake the angel. Clary knows that Valentine is going to the lake so she portals herself there. Valentine then starts using her blood but Jace shows up and he decides to use his and kills him and awakes the angel. While distracted Clary makes a rune that controls the Angel which makes the angel strike down Valentine, killing him. The angel grants Clary one wish and she asks for Jace back, he grants it and Jace wakes up. They then celebrate that Valentine is gone and Clary’s mother and Luke start dating.
This is the Third book in the series The Mortal Instruments, the first book is City of Bones so if you are interested in it, you should check it out. I read this book because I really enjoy adventure and mystery. Another reason is because it always had me trying to think what would happen next because you couldn’t guess. I would definitely recommend reading it if you like adventure and mystery.
